Chill out ya'll

So Sarah Palin gave a red-meat filled, Obama-belittling speech.  Big whoop.  Calm youselves and keep the following in mind:

  1. No matter who McCain had picked, that speech would have been given.
  1. The speech was to fire up a small, right-wing base.
  1. Not even all Republicans watched the speech, much less swing voters.
  1. The press has already defined her.  Giving a speech doesn't make all those scandals disappear.
  1. Most voters don't vote for a ticket based on the VP.
  1. Her speech offered nothing on the issues.
  1. She lied through the entire thing, and the lies are easily debunked.  So easy in fact that it made the front page of Yahoo.

I will be more than willing to eat my words if we find out she pulled in 24.5 million viewers and there was enough interest in St. Paul to fill the stadium where the Vikings play.

But I'm guessing not.

I know my corner of the universe is small, but even the die-hard Republicans I know didn't all tune in last night because they'd already dismissed her.  McCain insulted them.  One of my co-workers used to work for Strom freaking Thurmond and she didn't even watch because she thinks the ticket sucks.

I implore you to pick yourself up off the floor, recognize a speech given at a partisan convention for what it is, and continue on your merry way of working towards electing Obama and Biden.
